This week Tini and I were lucky enough to attend the Beyond the Stereotype conference in West Sussex. The event was run by West Sussex County Council and part of the World Autusm Awareness Day celebrations. Its aim was too celebrate the contribution people with autism make society. It was a great chance to meet people with autism, families and carers, and the services supporting individuals on the spectrum in West Sussex. There were some great projects represented, including advocacy services, communication support and carer support. Alongside Autism ran a stall telling people about our LIMA project in West Sussex aimed at supporting individuals on the autism spectrum who don't qualify for social care support, as well as our training and consultancy provision. Later on in the day I delivered a workshop on strategies to manage stress and anxiety when supporting people with autism spectrum conditions. It was a fantastic day including some truly inspirational talks by individuals with autism and parents of children with autism. Watch out for photos on the event which will be uploaded soon!!
